Brad Pitt Donates $100,000 to Same-Sex Marriage
Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) National Marriage Fund this week.
The Academy Award-winning actor is a strong sponsor for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocacy and redefining, but this move is his biggest yet.
The National Marriage Fund is focused on supporting initiatives in four states where same-sex marriage legislation will appear on the Nov. 6 ballot. The states include Maine, Maryland, Minnesota and Washington State.
On Wednesday, Pitt explained his thought process in an email to HRC members and supporters.
"It's unbelievable to me that people's lives and relationships are literally being voted on in a matter of days," penned the "Benjamin Button" star via People magazine.
"If you're like me, you don't want to have to ask yourself on the day after the election, what else could I have done?" he added.
Subsequently, Chad Griffin, the president of the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organization in celebrated Pitt's donation. He said that the money "delivers vital resources into these campaigns."
Around the same time, Pitt confirmed his engagement to longtime partner Angelina Jolie, the "Moneyball" star explained that they had not set a date yet.
"We truly have no date," Pitt told reporters at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. "We actually, really, truly have no date."
Pitt, 48, has been in a relationship with Jolie, 36, since 2005. The couple shares six children.
"We're still hoping we figure out marriage equality in the States before that date," Pitt added referring to his endorsement of same-sex marriage before noting that his engagement was "something that made sense."
Pitt spoke out in favor of redefining marriage last year.
