Brad Pitt on Same-Sex Marriage: 'Let Your God Sort It Out'
Actor Brad Pitt, a well-known proponent for reformed federal drug restrictions and same-sex marriage, recently expressed his opinion on current U.S. issues while promoting his new film, "Killing Them Softly".
"Equality, absolutely, that's what defines us. It's what makes us great," Pitt said when asked by MTV what he thinks of the recent legalization of same-sex marriage in Maryland, Maine, and Washington.
"If it doesn't sit well with your religion, let your God sort it out in the end, but that's us. We're equal," the famous actor who is in a relationship with Angelina Jolie added.

Pitt also touched on the issue of drug regulation in the U.S., saying that he believes "we should be responsible for our own choices in talking about the drug laws."
Additionally, Pitt added that he believes "the drug war is an ultimate failure and that the billions and billions of dollars that we've committed to it, there's got to be a better way."
This isn't the first time Pitt has voiced his opinions on current political and social issues. Critics contend that the actor has become more vocal about those issues over the years.
In October, Pitt donated $100,000 to pro-gay marriage campaign group Human Rights Campaign's National Marriage Fund, in preparation for the Nov. 6 elections.
Also in October, Pitt co-produced a documentary entitled "The House I Live In," which analyzed America's war on drugs.
Pitt told Reuters at the time of the film's premiere that he believes America's drug restriction efforts are a "charade," adding "to me, there's no question; we have to rethink this policy and we have to rethink it now."
Although Pitt may have certain strong sentiments towards U.S. policies, the Hollywood star's mother has also expressed her viewpoints on important issues, although often arguing from the other side of the spectrum.
In a July 2012 letter to Missouri's Springfield News-Leader, Jane Pitt expressed her Christian values regarding same-sex marriage, and encouraged readers to vote for GOP candidate Mitt Romney in the Nov. 6 presidential election.
"Any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon," Pitt wrote, adding that President Barack Obama is a "liberal who supports the killing of unborn babies and same-sex marriage."
