Brad Pitt Parade Interview: Fans Defend Jennifer Aniston on Twitter
Brad Pitt has clarified comments he made during an interview with Parade magazine in which he appears to speak disparagingly about his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston. The gesture may have come too late for fans, who have taken to Twitter to slam the actor and voice support for Aniston.
"It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn't living an interesting life myself. I think that my marriage [to actress Jennifer Aniston] had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't," Pitt said in the Parade interview.
Pitt released a statement late Thursday to E! claiming his words had been misinterpreted.
"It grieves me that this was interpreted this way. Jen is an incredibly giving, loving, and hilarious woman who remains my friend. It is an important relationship I value greatly," the actor said.
Pitt's attempt at damage control may have come too late, as several people using the hashtag #teamAniston commented on Twitter about the actor's interview.
"[Brad] told Parade that he 'wasn't living an interesting life' during his marriage ... he thought [she] was [boring]," wrote Twitter user @gnicko.
Whitney Jordan said, "Seriously, Brad Pitt. Stop making comments about your 'not interesting' marriage to Jen. Its rude and she has feelings!"
However, Pitt did not explicitly say his marriage with Aniston was not interesting. He said, "I spent the '90s trying to hide out. It started feeling pathetic. It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn't living an interesting life myself."
Pitt and Aniston were not even married in the '90s. The couple married in 2000 and divorced in 2005.
He is now in a relationship with actress Angelina Jolie. The couple has been together for more than five years and is raising six children together.
Pitt's new movie, "Moneyball," opens Sept. 23.
