Brad Pitt 'World War Z' Movie Stirring Controversy
The much-anticipated “World War Z” movie, based upon the novel by Max Brooks, is already rallying much controversy over the web.
The horror novel depicts the history of a decade long war on earth between human beings and zombies.
The novel has gained much notoriety due to its depiction of the zombie war having evolved in the story line as a collection of individual accounts, as opposed to a more typical grand narrative approach.
The extremely popular novel has a wide fan following that are both anticipating and dreading the film adaption of the book.
The most recent criticism from fans comes on the heels of Paramount Pictures releasing a one-sentence synopsis of the film.
Movies.com quoted the press release stating: “The story revolved around United Nations employee Gerry Lane, who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”
Following Paramount's release of the statement, Brooks fans have been waging a war of their own on the internet over concerns that the movie may tamper too much with the original script of the book, or may simply not do the oral history novel justice.
Fans all over the web are arguing that the film is likely to cut at the heart of what made the book so enticing, the details. The fear is that the movie will turn out to be a both typical and predicable Hollywood zombie movie.
One such fan, James Brady Ryan, argued on Nerve.com, “World War Z just shouldn’t be a movie. There is simply too much: too many characters, too many locations, too many tiny pieces that combine to make the big picture so compelling.”
The mega-budget adaption to the novel is currently being filmed in Glasgow, Scotland. The movie is being directed by Marc Forster and stars Brad Pitt and is set to hit theaters on December 21, 2012.
