Bradley Cooper Doesn't Want to Win an Oscar: 'It Wouldn't Change Anything,' Actor Says
Bradley Cooper may not have walked away with an Oscar for his performance in "Silver Linings Playbook," but that doesn't matter to him. The actor lost his father two years ago and, he said, that made a huge difference in his life and put things into perspective.
"I watched him dying and I was there by his bed watching him, breathing with him, and then I saw his last breath and he was gone. I experienced the whole thing. And that was a watershed moment that I was privileged to experience. And it changed everything. Nothing has been the same since," Cooper told British GQ magazine.
"You know William Blake's 'Songs of Innocence?' Well, right there, in that moment, the innocence was gone. Done. Never to return. The beauty is that I just don't sweat [explicative] anymore," Cooper added.
Instead of focusing on winning awards or other things, Cooper said, he has no interest in winning anything.
"I don't want to win an Oscar. It would change nothing. Nothing. The things in my life that aren't fulfilled would not be fulfilled. Career wise, right now, it's better that I don't win one. I don't want to win; I don't," he insisted.
Cooper was nominated for his portrayal of a young man with a mental illness in "Silver Linings Playbook." It's one of the more serious roles that he's played, given his roles in "The Hangover" franchise, "Wet Hot American Summer," and "I Want to Marry Ryan Banks."
He will revive his role as Phil in "The Hangover Part III," which is due out later this year. Cooper will reunite with Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis for the series, which was incredibly popular with the public.
In addition to "The Hangover," Cooper will reunite with Jennifer Lawrence, who was his "Silver Linings" costar and director David O. Russell for an upcoming, unnamed film.
Even though he may not want to, he has taken home several awards throughout his career and could likely continue to do so.
