'Brain on Fire' Release Date, Latest News: First Official Trailer Stars Chloë Grace Moretz
The first official trailer for the movie "Brain on Fire," starring young Hollywood actress Chloë Grace Moretz, has been released.
"Brain on Fire" is a medical mystery psychological drama based on the autobiography written by Susannah Cahalan. The film adaptation is directed by filmmaker Gerard Barrett.
As reported by Screen Crush, Cahalan is a journalist who finds herself suffering from nervous breakdowns and seizures which were brought about no apparent cause. After several misdiagnoses, one doctor discovers that she actually suffers from a rare form of autoimmune disease that causes the brain to panic, resulting in seizures and memory loss.
In Barrett's film adaptation of the book, Moretz portrays the role of Cahalan, a young journalist who lands her dream job at the New York Post. With a loving family, a devoted boyfriend and supportive co-workers, it seems like she had it all. However, without warning, Cahalan transforms from a competent and reliable journalist into an unstable and paranoid shell of her former self.
As can be seen in the trailer, Cahalan's condition worsens. Beginning with streaks of violence, she later descends to catatonia. After receiving numerous misdiagnoses about her condition and being hospitalized, she finds hope in a doctor who gives her a diagnosis that can help her rebuild her life.
"Brain on Fire" premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. However, according to reports, the reviews of Barrett's adaptation of Cahalan's memoir were not very positive. Some critics have reportedly described the movie as uninvolved and even emotionally distanced.
Aside from Moretz, the film stars Tyler Perry, Jenny Slate, Richard Armitage and Carrie-Anne Moss.
"Brain on Fire," along with "November Criminals" are the last projects Moretz filmed before she went on a brief acting hiatus last fall and dropped out of all future projects. She has since returned to the acting circuit and signed on to appear in films such as the "Suspiria" remake and "The Miseducation of Cameron Post."
A wider audience will have a chance to see "Brain on Fire" once it is released on Netflix sometime this year.
