Rising CCM Artist Brandon Heath Snags First AMA Nod

Contemporary Christian singer and songwriter Brandon Heath picked up his first American Music Awards nomination Wednesday after two years of burgeoning success.

Heath – who received Dove Awards this year for "Male Vocalist of the Year," "Song of the Year" and "Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year" – will vie for the title of "Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist" at the 37th AMA Awards to be held Nov. 22 in Los Angeles.

"I've been watching the AMA's for years – never thought I'd have the honor of being a nominee," Heath said after learning of his nomination.

"I consider myself very blessed to do music for a living," he added.

Since releasing his first main studio album late 2006 and his second in 2008, Heath has picked up 10 Dove Award nominations and won four, including "New Artist of the Year" in 2008.

Heath's five nods this year put the rising music star just behind longtime favorites Chris Tomlin (7) and Natalie Grant (6). His three wins, in the end, put him on top, alongside popular CCM band Casting Crowns.

"I consider myself blessed to be able to write songs that encourage and challenge others," Heath said after winning for "Song of the Year."

"It feels great to know that you are making a difference in the world," he added.

Currently, Heath is co-headlining the 43-city "Follow You Tour" with progressive rock group Leeland and special guest Francesca Battistelli.

The high-profile touring event, which kicked off Sept. 23, wraps up on Nov. 22 at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala.
