Brandon Lloyd and Patriots in 3 Year $12 Million Deal to Excite Fans
Receiver Brandon Lloyd has joined the New England Patriots in a move that has excited fans for the coming season.
Prior to Lloyd's addition, Patriots fans have had little to excite them during the team's free-agent moves. Jonathan Fanene, Steve Gregory, Anthony Gonzalez, Trevor Scott were not the big names many had wanted to see.
However, Brandon Lloyd was the perfect antidote for any fans disappointed by recent developments. In Lloyd the Patriots have added the playmaking receiver its offense has deeply been missing.
Patriots fans will be hoping that Lloyd's addition will not be the last. Tight end Daniel Fells (Broncos) and/or safety LaRon Landry (Redskins) could both join the Patriots soon, with Landry seen in town on Saturday, and Fells set to visit Monday.
The Lloyd deal stands out, like many from the Patriots, in that the team is managing to make good signings without taking excessive risk; most contracts are shorter in length and not a drain financially.
Lloyd has reportedly signed a three year deal worth $12 million. Compare that to other contracts signed throughout the league and the deal seems to be a fantastic one for the Patriots. For example, Pierre Garcon signed a five year deal with the Redskins for a reported $42.5 million.
So Lloyd will definitely help to reinforce the Patriot's offense, however, many will also be looking to see how the team manages to raise its defensive to the next level during free agency.
