Brandon Rios News 2015: 'Bam Bam' retires from boxing after being dominated by Timothy Bradley

On Saturday night, 29-year old slugger Brandon Rios announced his intent to walk away from the sport of boxing.

This after being dominated through nine rounds by reigning WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley in their title fight held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

In a report by Scott Christ of Bad Left Hook, Rios was described to be "in poor physical shape" and initially missed weight by 0.2 pounds. Throughout the fight, he showed almost no answer to Bradley's variety of attacks. The fight was put to a halt at the 2:48 mark of the ninth round.

Rios made the announcement of his retirement during his post-fight interview with HBO Boxing analyst Max Kellerman.

"My body is not the same no more," Rios said. "I've been in a lot of wars. I think it's time to hang it up. I'm done. I think that's it. It was a great run, it is what it is."

"I'd like to thank the fans for coming out and supporting this. I know I didn't give a great show, but f*ck it, it is what it is."

"I don't wanna hurt my body, I don't wanna hurt my family, I don't wanna hurt my close friends around me, so I think it's time to hang up the gloves," he added.

In another report by RingTV, Rios reiterated his plans to hang up his gloves for good during the post-fight press conference.

"My body wasn't doing what I wanted to do. I tried to pull the trigger and I couldn't let it go. Never one to make excuses, he simply gave credit where credit was due."

"He caught me with the perfect shot to the body," he continued. "It is what it is."

Rios began his professional career in 2004, winning his first 31 fights. With a record of 33-3-1 (with 24 victories by knockout), his most notable performances were during his trilogy with former WBO junior welterweight champion Mike Alvarado that dates back to 2012.

In all three barnburners, Rios won the first and third, both by stoppage.
