It is unconfirmed whether the helicopter crashed upon take-off or landing, but it is believed that the incident happened on takeoff just off the 34th street helipad.

Some commentators believe that a heavy gust of wind may have contributed to the crash.

Upon the crash, the helicopter quickly submerged into the East River.

Thus far, three people have been pulled ashore. A fourth person could be seen being pulled from the water onto a raft but seemed unresponsive.

One person remains missing.

According to New York Fire Department spokesman Jim Long, two of the victims are in critical condition.

The FDNY and EMS are on the scene, as well as another rescue helicopter and local emergency teams.

The water temperature of the East River is about 67 degrees, which is not cold enough to cause hypothermia among the crash victims for the short period they were in the water.
