'Bride of Frankenstein' News: Next Installment in Dark Universe Starts Filming February 2018
The Dark Universe remake of the Universal monster movie classic "Bride of Frankenstein" is finally set to go into production. Earlier this week, director Bill Condon revealed when the next installment in Universal's Dark Universe would start filming.
The Dark Universe started a new initiative in 2015 when it attempted to revive some of its classic horror movie titles in the modern age. Although the first movie in the franchise, Tom Cruise-top-billed "The Mummy" received generally unfavorable reviews and did not fare well in the domestic box office, but moviegoers from overseas helped push its global earnings past $407 million. As such, the second installment seems to be full steam ahead.
Just like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the DC Entertainment Universe (DCEU), the Dark Universe intends to feature modern versions of classic characters, but unlike the MCU and DCEU that feature superheroes, the Dark Universe features monsters.

Shortly after the first movie in the Dark Universe series, the people behind the franchise confirmed "Bride of Frankenstein," but it wasn't until recently that its director gave updates on when it would start going into production.
"We start on February 1st, 2018 so it's the early days but just to be here in London, starting to see locations and to talk about sets that we're building, it's very exciting. For me, the James Whale movie is really right there in the pantheon for me. As you know, the Bride is a character who appears in the last five minutes and then is destroyed so it's a way to almost continue the movie," said director Bill Condon.
Asked if the Bride of Frankenstein would be played by Oscar winner Angelina Jolie, the director did not confirm anything. According to him, nothing has been set yet, so fans should stay tuned for future updates.
