Britney Spears, Jason Trawick Split After Singer Quits 'X Factor'
Britney Spears and Jason Trawick have called off their one year engagement it was confirmed Friday.
The pair, who had been together for almost three years, decided to part ways and the split was said to be amicable. The breakup was confirmed hours after Spears, 31, quit her "X-Factor" judging role, according to CNN.
"I'll always adore him and we will remain great friends," Spears said in a statement obtained by CNN.
Trawick, who has since resigned as Spears' co-conservator, revealed that he will maintain a relationship with both the singer and her children. Spears has two sons Sean Preston and Jayden James with her former husband Kevin Federline.
"I love and cherish her and her boys and we will be close forever," Trawick said in his own statement.
The pair began dating in 2010 while Trawick, 41, was still Spears' agent although they eventually cut ties professionally. In December 2011 they announced their engagement and months later they began facing reports of relationship woes with various tabloids suggesting that Trawick was controlling.
In 2008 following a series of personal struggles a US court placed Spears under temporary conservatorship of her father James Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet, giving them complete control of her assets. Three years later Trawick was added as a co-conservator which later placed strain on his relationship with the pop star, it was claimed.
On Thursday shortly before the pair announced their split, RadarOnline.com claimed that Spears was attempting to dump Trawick as co-conservator amid ongoing relationship woes.
"Britney doesn't think Jason is any fun and resents him because he acts more like a second father than a romantic partner, or equal," a source told Radar.
"Britney and Jason have been sleeping in separate bedrooms for a very long time, and she has been staying in a hotel during the week because of the live X Factor shows, and although Jason stays at the same hotel, he is in a room adjacent to hers."
On Friday Spears confirmed that she would not be returning to "X Factor" following weeks of reports claiming that producer Simon Cowell was preparing to fire her.
"I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it's time for me to get back in the studio," Spears said in a statement.
