Britney Spears Mobile Game Announced
Britney Spears wants to do it again. The singer is getting her own mobile game, courtesy of Glu Mobile, the same developer of the lucrative "Kim Kardashian: Hollywood" game.
Spears is currently experiencing another high in her career, with her successful comeback in Las Vegas. Taking advantage of this and her ever expanding fan base, she recently signed a five year deal with Glu Mobile, with an option for a three-year extension. Part of the agreement is that Glu Mobile will have access to Spears' "voice and likeness." Spears, however, will "retain some level of creative influence" over the game, according to Glu in a report in GameSpot.
The report described the game as one that will let players "interact with Britney and experience the glitz and glamour of the entertainment business." It will launch worldwide for mobile devices sometime during the first half of 2016.
The game will capitalize on Spears' popularity -- the singer has sold over 100 million albums worldwide; she has 39 million Facebook fans and 41.7 million followers on Twitter. Much like Kardashian, her fan base is expected to patronize this game which features her likeness.
According to a report in The Guardian, Glu Mobile's chief executive Niccolo de Masi during the company's earnings call had this to say about the singer: "People like Britney Spears obviously have been successful for more than a decade. They have brand recognition and social following everywhere: not just developed nations but also emerging markets."
This is the company's second deal with a musician -- the first one being Katy Perry, who will have her own mobile game released before the end of the year.
"Kim Kardashian: Hollywood" is said to have earned $100 million since its launch in June 2014. The game is available for Android and iOS platforms.
Glu also recently got additional investments from Chinese internet company Tencent, which was also announced together with the company's partnership with Spears.
