Britney Spears Niece Maddie Aldridge Condition News: Niece Is 'Making Progress'

Maddie Aldridge, Britney Spears' niece and Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter, suffered a tragic ATV accident on Sunday, Feb. 5. She was immediately rushed to a New Orleans hospital where she remained in critical condition until Feb. 6. On Feb. 8, Britney took to her Twitter account to inform her fans that Aldridge is already "making progress." The little girl is now out of the hospital and recuperating at home.

Aldridge, who is 8 years old, was riding an ATV at 3 p.m. Sunday in Kentwood, Louisiana, when her vehicle crashed into a pond and pulled her in with it. Aldridge was apparently trying to steer away from a drainage ditch but miscalculated. Due to the seatbelt and netting, family members were unable to immediately rescue her. Thankfully, Acadian Ambulance Services quickly arrived at the scene to pull her out and resuscitate her.

"The ATV and child were instantly submerged in the water right before their eyes. Within seconds the child's mother, step-father and other family members reached the pond, dove in and attempted to rescue the child to no avail," a sheriff's report read. "The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV's safety netting."

Her mother, Jamie Lynn, asked that prayers be made for her daughter. Britney, who was in Las Vegas at the time because of a Saturday night show, took to her Twitter page to urge fans to pray for her niece. She accompanied the post with a nice photo of Aldridge with a dog.

According to RadarOnline, Aldridge regained consciousness on Feb. 7. "Doctors were able to remove the ventilator today and she is awake and talking," a statement from the family read.

On Feb. 8, Britney provided an update on Aldridge's condition, tweeting that her niece is "making progress" and thanking everyone for their support and prayers.

In a recent E! Online report, Aldridge has been released from the hospital and was headed for home where she is expected to continue her recovery. Her mother and step-father thanked the first-responders and the hospital medical teams for taking care of their daughter. They also thanked everyone for the prayers.
