Deadline reports that the "Broad City" season 4 premiere, which aired on Wednesday this week, garnered 879,000 total viewers. This is 14 percent higher than of the season 3 premiere total views, and 18 percent higher in terms of the ages 18 to 49 category viewership.

This week's episode is reportedly the second highest rated installment of "Broad City," with an average rating of 0.72, only a little behind of the series' pilot season premiere, which was at 0.73.

The said episode took the viewers back to 2011, when the two best friends first met.

As per Vulture's recap, Abbi and Ilana crossed paths when the latter sacrificed her unlimited MetroCard swipe for a complete stranger, which was the former. A lot of bad things happened that day, which, oddly, turned them into friends.

Titled "Sliding Doors," the season 4 premiere took inspiration from the 1998 romantic comedy of the same title, wherein Abbi and Ilana were placed in two parallel universes. One of these is where they became friends, and the other is of them never meeting.

"Broad City" is created and written by Jacobson and Glazer, who also star in the series. It follows the two as they go about their daily lives in New York, telling the story about their friendship, relationships, and jobs.

The series airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. ET on Comedy Central.
