Brock Lesnar Retires at UFC 141 After Brutal Defeat
Brock Lesnar has decided to retire following a first round defeat at UFC 141 by 6-foot-5 Dutch champion Alistair Overeem.
Lesnar was defeated at 2:26 into the first round in the heavyweight bout on Friday night. In the aftermath of the loss Lesnar, who is UFC’s biggest pay-per-view star, announced his retirement.
"This is the last time you'll see me in the octagon," Lesnar said.
Lesnar has become one of the biggest names in UFC over the past four years, entering the sport following his career in pro wrestling.
In 2008 Lesnar beat Randy Couture to win the heavyweight title. He went on to defend his title twice before losing to Cain Velasquez in 2010.
However, over recent years he has fought just a few times as he fought a lower-intestinal ailment.
He said, “I've had a really difficult couple of years with my disease, and I'm going to officially say tonight is the last time.”
His latest defeat was his return from a 14 month absence, and it was a short brutal beating from Overeem.
