Broncos Fan Gets 'Tebow Time' Tattoo After Losing Bet
Many people have discovered recently that it is not wise to bet against Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow.
Juan Contreras found that out the hard way, and he now has a brand new “Tebow Time” tattoo to commemorate the quarterback's success.
The 26-year-old told ESPN's Page 2 that he is a Broncos fan, but from the beginning was against having his favorite team start Tebow as its quarterback. He and his friend Gabe Lopez, owner of Love N Hate Elite Tattoo Studio in Denver, would regularly tease their friend Josh Lucero for being a Tebow supporter earlier in the season.
Lucero, who is one of the studio's tattoo artists, is the one who's laughing now.
He and Contreras wanted to make a wager based on their predictions of how well Tebow would do this season, but instead of betting with cash, they bet with ink.
If Tebow won five games or more as a starting quarterback this year, the wager stated, Contreras would get a “Tebow Time” tattoo. If he won less than five games as a starter, then Lucero would have to get some sort of anti-Tebow tattoo.
Well, on Nov. 27 the Broncos got their fifth win under Tebow's leadership against the San Diego Chargers, and the deal was sealed for an unfortunate Contreras.
His new tattoo is located on his thigh and features a centaur, a half-man and half-horse creature, wearing a Broncos helmet. The creature has “Tebow Time” written above it, and is shown holding a football in one hand and a cross in the other.
The inclusion of the cross is appropriate for a tattoo in honor of Tebow, who openly professes his Christian faith and has frequently been seen praying (or “Tebowing”) on the sidelines at games this season.
"I just couldn't stop laughing," Contreras said after seeing the initial sketch of the tattoo, Page 2 reports. "I was like, 'Well, if I'm going to get something I'm going to regret, I might as well make it something funny.'"
Contreras isn't the only one who has been surprised by the Denver quarterback, who many think has an unorthodox style of play among NFL quarterbacks. Tebow has accumulated ten touchdowns to only one interception so far this season, which has helped propel his team to the top of the AFC West division with a record of seven wins and five losses.
The Broncos next game is on Sunday, Dec. 11, in Denver against the Chicago Bears.
Contreras told Page 2 he still thinks Denver needs a different quarterback to become a top-tier team, but also pointed out, “I would never bet against Tim Tebow again.”
