Brooke Shields Cane Accessory, Star Arrives at Met Gala Nursing Injury

At the recent Met Gala which was held in New York City, Brooke Shields arrived dressed fashionably but accessorized with a not so fashionable cane.

The actress appeared at the Met Costume Institute Gala on Monday wearing a J Mendel dress paired with Tiffany & Co. jewelry and an unexpected black cane.

The Met Gala is considered one of the biggest fashion parties of the year. The event celebrates the Metropolitan Museum's fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute and has been an ongoing affair since 1948.

Brooke Shields, who has recently gone from Hollywood to Broadway and now stars as Morticia in "The Addam's Family," arrived at the event donning a black metal cane.

Shields later revealed to E! news host Giuliana Rancic that she had torn her meniscus in her knee during a recent Broadway performance. The star quickly rode the injury off as "not a big deal" although she admitted that it was "inconvenient."

However, nothing was too inconvenient for the star to miss her chance at one of the biggest fashion event all year round.

"You know what? We'll do anything for fashion!" Shields told Rancic.

Shields was born in New York city into a noble family line. She made her first film at only 12 debuting in "Pretty Baby." She became famous for her controversial Calvin Klein ads which also prompted Klein into becoming an internationally known designer.

Others who attended the Met Gala, which is often referred to as fashion's Oscars or the Oscars of the East Coast, included Gwyneth Paltrow, Kanye West, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen, Rihanna, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks and Scarlett Johansson, to name a few.

"The dressing part was easy," Rihanna told the Chicago Tribune while running into the museum late, but "my nails took forever. They're like claws."
