'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 3 News: Recap on the Season 3 Premiere Events
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has steadily built a great foundation over 2 seasons, and so to say that expectations were high on the premiere of the third season is an understatement.
Last season ended with Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) being moved departments, and though for sure he will relatively be returning, it was a bit different trying to adjust to an episode where Captain Holt and Gina's (Chelsea peretti) presence was not part of the usual precinct dynamic. There were three main focus on the premiere.
The news of Bill Hader stepping in as the new captain definitely circulated in the past month, and Hader did debut in the premiere as Captain Dozerman. Although it was previously mentioned that Hader wasn't going to be actually staying that lone, no one could have guessed such a short appearance. Not long into the episode, even having established a real connection with the squad, Dozerman experienced a narrow aortic valve that had led to his death.
Another focus was on Jake Peralta (Adam Samberg) and Amy Santiago's (Melissa Fumero) new romance. Their story jumps from the season finale, where Jake finally kissed Amy, to the present, where they have now finalized being together. The show definitely kept away from diving into the relationship of Jake and Amy but rather directed to how their decision to date will affect the team. As expected, reactions varied, with Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) will ultimately be shipping for Jake and Amy, while the usual romantic Terry (Terry Crews) was surprisingly concerned about the impact of their new relationship to the office and their job performances.
Finally, the new episode also did not fail to show viewers how Holt and Gina were both coping outside the precinct. Initially, it did not seem good, as the Captain's broken spirit had obviously shown, despite his stoic appearance, simply letting Wuntch tear him down. However, at the end, Gina was able to slowly get a rise from the Captain's spirits, and despite wearing a pigeon costume, Holt is more determined to face on Wuntch.
The premiere ended with the second new captain being introduced, and it will seemingly be more of a challenge than Dozerman, as he is replaced by none other than Detective Pembroke "The Vulture."
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" airs every Sunday, 8:30 p.m. on FOX.
