'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 5 Spoilers: Jake and Amy's Wedding to Take Place This Year

The recent episode of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 surprised viewers when Jake (Andy Samberg) got down on one knee and proposed to Amy (Melissa Fumero) during their annual Halloween heist.

As fans know, the 99th precinct always conducts a Halloween heist each year. Everyone gets really into it, especially Holt (Andre Braugher). But the title of "Amazing Human/Genius" this year did not go to anyone because the entire plot involved Jake surprising Amy with a proposal when she got a hold of the winning belt.

Amy initially thought the proposal was part of Jake's plan to win, but he convinced her that he was being serious. After a touching and heartfelt speech, Jake popped the big question, and Amy said yes. Naturally, when Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) came in and figured out what had just happened, he fainted in excitement.

Fans have been following Jake and Amy's romance from the very beginning, and co-creator Dan Goor revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the wedding will take place soon.

"The plan is to have the wedding this year, but it's too early to say when," he said.

Goor also revealed that the decision to have Jake propose to Amy came about naturally. It is pretty safe to say that the couple will not break up at this point just to make things interesting.

"Our philosophy on Jake and Amy has always been to play their relationship as realistically as possible. We try to never push it forward or backward just to generate stories," he said. "This is a long-winded way of saying I don't think there will be challenges as a result of them actually doing it. Hopefully, there will be many opportunities for fun stories about the wedding, bachelor parties, etc."

The Halloween episode also showed Amy's first day of work, which was a fun glimpse of everyone's younger days. Goor teased a possible future episode that will delve more into their past.

"I certainly wouldn't rule out an episode which focuses on their early days at the 99," he said.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" season 5 airs Tuesdays, at 9:30 p.m. EDT on FOX.
