Buffalo Bills Add Offensive Tackle Seantrel Henderson to Active Roster After Serving His Suspension

Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson is back.

The Bills have announced that they have activated Henderson to the 53-man roster on Monday after he finished serving his 10-game suspension for violating the National Football League's (NFL) policy against substance abuse. The team released cornerback Greg Mabin to make room for him on the active roster.

"I really have just been staying around my teammates, coming in every day, working out, conditioning, going to meetings. Pretty much doing everything they do except playing the game. I feel that's really kept me focused for this time," Henderson said, via the Bills' official website.

"My conditioning is there. I've been going at it like every day. No days off really, so I know conditioning-wise I'm good. As far as techniques and things like that, that's what I need to get back. The speed and just working at my craft so I can get out there and play," he added.

Henderson was suspended twice last season for testing positive for marijuana. He had to serve a four-game suspension at the start of the 2016 season for violating the league's substance abuse policy, and the NFL handed down a harsher 10-game suspension for a second violation later in the season.

However, Henderson was actually using marijuana for medical reasons. The offensive lineman was diagnosed with Crohn's disease (a chronic inflammatory intestinal disease) in 2015, and he underwent surgery to remove sections of his small and large intestines that were infected.

Henderson would admit that he used marijuana to cope with the effects of the illness. However, the league doesn't allow an exemption for medical marijuana use, so he was suspended.

The fourth-year pro began serving his suspension with five games remaining last season, so he only had to sit out five games this year.

Henderson will give the Bills offense a much-needed boost when he returns to the field.
