Buffalo Bills NFL Trade Rumors: DeShawn Shead to Visit the Bills
The Buffalo Bills have been busy revamping their defense with offseason signings Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer, and it looks like they are not done upgrading their secondary.
According to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia, former Seattle Seahawks cornerback DeShawn Shead is coming to town to visit the Bills and the team will do their due diligence to see if he is healthy enough to return at the start of the season. Shead is still recovering from the torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) he suffered in January, and it's unclear if he will be able to play at a high level right away once he returns.
During a media scrum at the scouting combine earlier this month, Seahawks' general manager John Schneider told reporters that he doesn't believe Shead could return at the start of the season, but coach Pete Carroll was a little more optimistic and he thinks the cornerback would be ready by then.
Shead became an unrestricted free agent when the Seahawks decided not to put a tender on him due to his knee injury. The team wants to bring him back, but Shead also wants to explore other options in free agency and this gives the Bills the chance to sign him.
Everyone knows that Shead is a productive player when he's healthy, but there's a chance he may miss a good portion of the regular season and signing him right now can be a little risky for the Bills.
"The sticking point will be his knee, and Buffalo is bringing him in for the visit in large part to take their own look at his injury and assess when he might be ready," the Seattle Times' Bob Condotta said in his piece about Shead.
Shead is versatile enough to play outside cornerback, nickel cornerback and safety. If he's healthy, he will be an excellent addition to the team.
