Burger King Bacon Sundae Tested in Nashville
Burger King has made headlines this week with its newest menu item- the bacon sundae.
In an attempt to close the competition with rival fast food companies such as McDonald's, Burger King advertised the interesting ice cream treat in Nashville, Tenn., reported GrubGrade.
Burger King's bacon sundae features vanilla ice cream alongside a strip of bacon and drizzled in chocolate and caramel, according to the image provided by GrubGrade.
Additionally, Burger King is considering adding items such as sweet potato fries, a barbecue sandwich, and frozen lemonades. The online restaurant guide indicated that the menu items were being tested at the Burger King in Nashville.
The third most popular fast food restaurant in the nation is trying to bolster sales with both healthier choices and unique offerings. The bacon-ice cream addition may be Burger King's attempt to emulate the success of treats already found at smaller fast food chains such as Denny's and Jack in the Box.
The Maple Bacon Sundae offering at Denny's features vanilla soft serve ice cream with bacon bits drizzled in maple syrup, and has become a well known and liked item at the restaurant. Similarly, Jack in the Box added the bacon milkshake which features vanilla ice cream but with bacon flavored syrup.
On Twitter, users are sharing their opinions and reactions to Burger King's possible addition of the bacon sundae.
"Delicious or disgusting," asked @ComplexMag.
"Barf," wrote Twitter user Autumn of the bacon sundae.
Eater wrote, "Burger King creates a Bacon Sundae, tries to be trendy."
"Burger King Testing a New Bacon Sundae," wrote FoodBeast. "Because This is America."
"May need to take a trip to Burger King soon-Taking a chance on a bacon sundae," posted Stone.
Pizza Hut is also toying with new menu ideas in order to attract more customers. In the U.K., the restaurant is offering hot dog-stuffed crust on their pizza. Described as a "succulent hot dog sausage bursting from our famous stuffed crust," the item also comes with "free mustard drizzle."
