Bus Kills 6-Year-Old as He Sleeps in Bedroom After Crashing Into New York House
A bus has killed a 6-year-old after it crashed into a home in a tragic accident in Hempstead, New York on Tuesday Nov. 27. The young boy and his older brother were asleep in their bedroom at the time the bus ploughed through into their house, resulting in the younger dying and the older sustaining injuries.
According to CBS News a Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) bus smashed into a New York home on Tuesday killing a young six year old boy who was sleeping in his bed at the time.
Six year old, David Granados, and his seven year old brother were both in the bedroom at the time, but where as David was killed, his older brother survived but suffered arm injuries.
The tragic accident took place when the bus driver reportedly swerved to avoid a pedestrian in the road. The driver reported that he honked his horn a the pedestrian but he was unable to move in time and he was forced to swerve off the road to avoid the pedestrian. The bus crashed over the curb and smashed into the house.
Nassau County police spokesman Inspector Kenneth Lack has said, "The bus driver sees the pedestrian, blows his horn three times as a warning, the pedestrian keeps walking toward the moving bus, who was traveling at the proper rate of speed with the green light, tries to avoid him and is forced to make a hard right turn."
He added that the bus then "hops the curb and strikes the house at 505 Fulton Avenue. Preliminarily, alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be a factor regarding the driver of the NICE bus," he concluded.
Reports have suggested that the pedestrian was also injured in the accident but was not killed. The family of the six year old is obviously devastated.
