Calista Flockhart Joins Harrison Ford's Side After Actor's Injury on 'Star Wars' Set
Calista Flockhart reportedly rushed to Harrison Ford's side directly following his hospitalization this week.
Ford, who is reprising his role as Hans Solo in the Disney production of "Star Wars," suffered a broken ankle on the film set on June 12. However, the injury is proving to be more serious as the 71-year-old actor is said to need at least eight weeks to recover, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Moreover, Flockhart, who has been married to Ford for four years, rushed to be by her husband's side following the ankle break. Confirming her travels to the U.K., the actress said that she was "en route" to the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford, according to The Telegraph.
Ford broke his ankle after the hydraulic doors of the spacecraft Millenium Falcon crushed him, but it is believed that the veteran actor also suffered chest and pelvic injuries at Pinewood Studios. Ford's son Ben said that his father needs a plate and screws in his ankle and that filming will resume Friday, but only of Ford from the waist up, according to The Mirror.
"The initial day or two after the accident it was hard to move things around but now we have had more time we can juggle thing, bring some scenes forward and push others back," a source on the set of "Star Wars" said. "There are lots of other actors in the movie so it is not a disaster. We are confident the film can stay on schedule."
Meanwhile, Disney released a statement confirming Harrison's injury on the set of "Star Wars: Episode VII" last week.
"Harrison Ford sustained an ankle injury during filming today on the set of "Star Wars," the studio said at the time. "He was taken to a local hospital and is receiving care. Shooting will continue as planned while he recuperates."
Despite the optimistic statement, other reports indicate that Disney may have to postpone the film's slated Dec. 18, 2015 release date.
