'Call of Duty 2017': World War 2 Theme Deemed Perfect for Next Game; Developer Teases Major Surprises
This year's iteration of "Call of Duty" will reportedly return to its roots by taking players back to the World War 2 era. This is according to a leak recently found in the wild.
While there is no way of confirming the authenticity of the information provided, IGN believes that a World War 2 setting for the next "Call of Duty" game is actually plausible.
The publication believes that Activision and its collaborators have learned their lesson after the underwhelming and bordering-on-hate reaction toward "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare," which was set in the future.
The trailer got so many downvotes and while there are those who believe that "Battlefield" fans just plotted to assemble a dislike button army to mess with the fans of the "Call of Duty" franchise, IGN believes that there is a reason it received such awful feedback.
The site believes that many fans would like to see a "Call of Duty" game that is grounded on reality. Lately, the entries in the franchise just pushed the action further and further into the future.
Because of this, the realistic, relatable experience that the fans loved about "Call of Duty" diminished as Activision traded it for fictional and sci-fi elements that players found difficult to give meaning to.
"Call of Duty 2017" being set in World War 2 might just be the way for the franchise to come back from the debacle that is "Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare."
Additionally, fans will be very happy know that Activision is not just simply going back to where it all started for "Call of Duty" to satisfy fans.
Michael Condrey, the CEO and co-founder of Sledgehammer Games, the developer working on the new game, teased there are more things to expect.
In response to professional YouTuber Ali-A, who thanked Sledgehammer for the official merchandise jacket and the "nice message" they sent to him, Condrey teased "plenty of surprises ahead." There is no word what this will be though so fans will just have to wait.
"Call of Duty 2017" will be one of the titles that will be presented in Microsoft's demo of the Project Scorpio later this year.
