'Call of Duty' 2018 News: Analyst Firm Predicts 'Black Ops 4' Will Be Next Year's Offering

Earlier rumors hinted that next year's installment of the franchise may feature modern elements

Annual "Call of Duty" releases have become common and even expected, which is why even though this year's installment is not even out yet, there are already rumors and even predictions for what may be delivered next year.

Just recently, analyst firm Cowen & Company generated some buzz thanks to what it believes will be the next installment of the popular first-person shooter franchise, GameSpot reported.

According to the firm, 2018 may feature none other than "Call of Duty: Black Ops 4."

It is worth noting that there are some reasons for why the "Black Ops 4" prediction is one that fans may want to keep in mind.

First off, 2018 will be Treyarch's turn at the wheel after Infinity Ward came out with 2016's "Infinite Warfare" and Sledgehammer Games is in the process of putting the finishing touches on "Call of Duty: WWII."

On top of that, the last Treyarch-developed installment in the series was of course "Black Ops 3."

"Black Ops 3" was a commercial success and developers even released some new content for it earlier this year, which makes it easy to understand if the folks at Treyarch and Activision decided that they want to produce a direct follow-up to it.

Interestingly enough, there was also a job listing posted by Treyarch earlier this year that drew some attention online because it indicated that the studio was looking for someone with a "deep knowledge base of firearms and modern military technology" as well as "Prestige 1 or above in Black Ops 3 multiplayer."

To put it simply, there are definitely some signs pointing to a new "Black Ops" game being in development, but at this point, it is unlikely that anyone from either Activision or Treyarch will confirm anything.

For now, fans will just have to wait and keep their eyes peeled for any more indicators that could point to what next year's "Call of Duty" game will be.
