'Call of Duty: WWII' Gameplay News: Developer Reveals There Will Be Variety of Zombies and New Ways to Fight Them
Sledgehammer Games recently unveiled bits of information on the cooperative zombie gameplay mode for their upcoming title "Call of Duty: WWII" and revealed that players can expect various types of the undead as well as new ways to defeat them.
Every game that has been part of "Call of Duty's" main series seems to have a zombie-filled mode, and the upcoming "Call of Duty: WWII" is no different.
In an interview on Sony PlayStation's blog, Sledgehammer Games senior director Jon Horsley confirmed that the zombie-infested game mode for "Call of Duty: WWII" will continue to take on the four-player, survival co-op format but with new interesting elements.
First, Horsley explained that the zombies in the upcoming game were ultimately created by Third Reich as a desperate measure to prevent their looming defeat in the great world war.
Horsley also confirmed several details previewed in an earlier released trailer for the new game's zombie gameplay mode.
Players can expect various kinds of zombies with specific characteristics. This means that gamers will have to learn different strategies that will effectively work against the undead based on their qualities.
"Each zombie type fills a specialized role as well: there are flaming zombies and running zombies, for example, and they will give you serious problems if you get cornered," Horsley further explained.
Moreover, it was revealed that the Third Reich did not just create hordes of zombies. There are also a "variety of structures built by the enemy to subdue and constrain the undead" in case they cannot control the decaying creatures as well.
However, these structures scattered in the game environment can also be accessed or used by players to their advantage.
"There are numerous ways to trap and kill your enemies. The environment can be a great ally if you know how to leverage it," Horsley teased.
The upcoming game's zombie mode will be particularly set "in a quiet Bavarian village in Germany in the later years of WWII." It has also been confirmed that similar to what was shown in the official trailer, players will stray through "bloody sewers, evil laboratories, and ancient tombs."
"Call of Duty: WWII" will be released on Friday, Nov. 3.
