'Call of Duty: WWII' News: Zombies Mode: Setting, Weapons and Gameplay Details Revealed

Sledgehammer Games has treated fans with the first details about the Zombies mode in "Call of Duty: World War II," which is one of the most anticipated components of the game.

Sledgehammer senior director Jon Horsley, who was also the lead in the development of the mode, revealed to PlayStation that like in the zombie adventures in previous iterations of the first-person shooter series, gamers will be tasked to take on waves of undead Nazi in "Call of Duty: WWII."

The mode is focused on exciting four-player cooperative combat against waves of increasingly deadly zombies. Call of Duty WWII's Zombies mode is grounded in a gritty, horrifying setting based on World War II, and we take things to terrifying new levels.

Horsley added that they set out "to make this the most terrifying Zombies experience we've ever created" and based on the promotional images and clips, many fans are convinced they were successful in doing so.

It will be a challenge to fend off the Nazi zombies in "Call of Duty: WWII" especially since some are flaming while others frantically chase after players. Thankfully, gamers can tap into their resourceful selves and get their hands on things around them that they can use to ward them off.

There are a variety of structures built by the enemy to subdue and constrain the undead. A resourceful player can turn the tables and use their engines of death against them. And saw blades are just the beginning; there are numerous ways to trap and kill your enemies. The environment can be a great ally if you know how to leverage it.

The "Call of Duty: WWII" Zombies mode is set in "a quiet Bavarian village in Germany" in the latter years of the warfare. Horsley teased that players will find themselves in "a horrifying corner of the town, where bloody sewers, evil laboratories, and ancient tombs will reveal their dark secrets."

It's an immersive thrill ride, and developing the canvas and the environment the player is immersed in was a fun challenge for our team.

"Call of Duty: WWII" will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on Nov. 3.
