Cam Newton Prays Every Night That God Can Help Him Give People Hope
Cam Newton says every night, he prays to God about giving hope to other people.
Newton, the 28-year-old Carolina Panthers quarterback, revealed his prayers after a game against the New England Patriots on Sunday. During the Panthers 33-30 win over the Pats, the QB scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the game and celebrated with a clenched fist in the air.
When explaining his symbolic end zone celebration to reporters, Newton also revealed his prayers for his platform.

"It was to signify black power but more important, I pray every night for God to give me a pinnacle to give people hope," Newton said after the game Sunday.
Newton's "black power" stance comes as the NFL has been protesting the national anthem over mistreatment of minorities in a movement sparked by free agent QB Colin Kaepernick. However, Newton has received some criticism for something other than his end zone celebration.
The QB was accused of being sexist after laughing at a female reporter from the Charlotte Observer named Jourdan Rodrigue who asked him about routes.
"It's funny to hear a female talk about routes like — it's funny,'' Newton responded, according to ESPN.
However, the Dannon yogurt company did not find the comments amusing and dropped its sponsorship with Newton Thursday, according to USA Today.
In the past, Cam's mother, Jackie Newton, shared some biblical advice with her son about using his words wisely. Newton once shared a text message that his mother sent him concerning his speech.
"Don't let the devil win over your words or speech that represent the dark world. But represent the awesome God you serve through your words," he previously shared on Instagram. "Don't confuse the devil and the enemy of what you are on: so speak boldly to the nations that you represent Christ for the great things He has done. Through your language and actions, speak words to uplift and not tear down."
Jackie told her son not to promote the "devil's workshop," quoting Proverbs 18:21 which states, "death and life are in the power of the tongue."
"The devil [doesn't] like positive words. That's why he keeps attacking because he ain't happy," she wrote. "You win with your character and powerful words that you speak."
