Candace Cameron Bure Condemned by Christian Fans for Singing 'Ice Ice Baby'
Candace Cameron Bure is receiving backlash from some of her Christian fans for singing the '90s hit song "Ice Ice Baby" for karaoke day on "The View."
On Wednesday's episode of ABC's all-female talk show, Bure performed a 2016 cover of the popular '90s rap song, and was joined onstage by Vanilla Ice. Some of her more conservative Christian fans criticized her song choice while others stood up for her.
Bure, fully dressed in b-boy style, rapped and danced — hopping, sliding, and twirling around the stage.
"Ice ice baby, Ice ice baby
All right stop, Collaborate and listen
Ice is back with my brand new invention
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Then I flow that a harpoon daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle," "The Fuller House" actress passionately sung.
Once joined onstage by Vanilla Ice, Bure focused more on her dance moves, doing her best to fit the part of a rap video girl. After the show, Bure took to Facebook to share her experience with her supporters.
"This may have been one of my most fun days ever!!! 40 = who cares how silly you look if you're having a blast! #GoForIt Have confidence no matter what. Thank you @vanillaiceofficial for letting me team up with you today! #90sgirldream #IceIceBaby," she wrote.
Although the performance was all in fun and good spirits, Bure's fans were at odds with how they felt about it. Some cheered her on for being fun and carefree, while others thought she should have used the opportunity to share her faith in some way.
"Candace good job showing that followers of Christ know how to have fun," one Facebook user said.
Another felt differently and wrote: "Candace is suppose to be a Christian. What if she got up there and sung a spiritual song to the crowd? would she still rock?? Disappointed Candace."
Comments like that created a back-and-forth on her timeline. Someone responded by saying, "As a Christian myself I find it insulting that someone would say that because she's a Christian she should only perform a spiritual song! There was nothing wrong with the one she sang and she had fun doing it!"
In the past, Bure has stated that she wants people to stop arguing about her Christianity. Since joining "The View" as a co-host, she has endured criticism for her Christian conservative views and for not acting Christian enough.
"If someone makes a rude or negative comment, ignore it! You're feeding and driving the negativity. This is NOT productive or respectful conversation. And I'm talking to BOTH sides! It's getting old and downright ugly. This does not represent Jesus well. Let's encourage one another as well as take the debates to a private page. Please and thank you," Bure wrote to her fans on Instagram earlier this year.
