Candace Cameron Bure 'Dancing With the Stars' Costume Shocks Judges: 'I Was Totally Playing a Character!' She Says (VIDEO)
"Full House" alum Candace Cameron Bure transformed into a mermaid for Disney night on "Dancing With The Stars" this week. The performer was accompanied by partner Mark Ballas, who danced as a crab.
"It was really fun, and I think I felt a freedom in that, because I was totally playing a character!" Bure told Us Weekly after the performance. "I wasn't Candace – I was playing Ariel."
That included dressing in the familiar costume of The Little Mermaid, complete with a seashell bra and a skirt that was meant to look as one piece. Bure previously said that she would only stick with conservative ensembles for the show but decided to loosen up just a little bit, as viewers saw during the show.
"If there were one week that I could take my conservative walls down a little bit, this would be it," she said during her talk with show's costumers. "Because it's Ariel, I'll try to live up to the cartoon."
Bure and Ballas then went on to perform a samba dressed as Ariel and Sebastian, the crab, much to the delight of fans and those in the audience, including her family.
"They thought it was great," Bure told Us Weekly, "but my boys were like, 'Nice shells, mom!' I mean … my boys are 12 and 14! So they thought it was pretty funny."
The judges gave the pair high marks and praise for their performance and commended Bure on stepping outside her comfort zone and getting into the "swing" of things.
"I really liked what I saw – the transformation!" judge Bruno Tonioli exclaimed. "It was like the rebirth of Venus!" he added, citing the famous painting of a woman emerging from a seashell.
The pair earned a 35 for their dance, placing them in the bottom three, but Bure was spared elimination and Cody Simpson went home.
"Dancing With The Stars" airs on ABC.
