Candace Cameron Bure Rejects 'Teen Hearthrob' Title, Says She Was 'Everyone's Big Sister'
Christian actress and "The View" co-host Candace Cameron Bure, who gained prominence as a teen star for her role as D.J. Tanner in the show "Full House" in the 1990s, says she never wanted to be viewed as a "teen heartthrob," but rather as "everyone's big sister."
Bure, an outspoken conservative Christian who lives her life by Christian values, took home the Teen Choice Award for favorite actress in a comedy television series on Sunday night for her role in the new Netflix reboot series "Fuller House."
In "Fuller House," Bure takes on the role of a grown and mature D.J. Tanner-Fuller, whose husband died in a firefighting accident and is now caught in a love triangle between her former high school sweetheart and her colleague.

Before the awards ceremony began, Bure, who is married to former NHL player Valeri Bure, told FOX411 on the blue carpet that she isn't really comfortable being referred to as a teen heartthrob.
"I don't know if I was anyone's teen heartthrob but I think I was everyone's big sister and I feel more comfortable with that anyway," the mother of three explained.
In the interview, Bure said just being nominated for the award and the show being nominated for favorite comedy was a big deal for her and others involved in the show since the "Full House" days. "Fuller House" ended up winning the award for favorite comedy show.
"This is from the teens and we love that and that's a huge part of the 'Fuller House' audiences, so we are happy to be here," Bure said. "This is a really big deal for us. You know 'Full House' back in the day was never nominated for anything, so the fact that 'Fuller House' comes out of the gate with three nominations — we are just in it to celebrate … win or lose it doesn't matter."
Although Bure tries to live her life by modest Christian principles, she has taken some heat from many of her Christian fans because of the more adult nature of "Fuller House," as compared to the family-friendly nature of "Full House."
In one episode in particular, D.J. Tanner-Fuller, her friend "Kimmy Gibbler" (Andrea Barber) and sister "Stephanie Tanner" (Jodie Sweetin) go out to dance and drink at a San Francisco night club. In the episode, D.J. wears a very short dress, which some might call "sexy."
Additionally, Bure shared a promotional photo from the episode on her Instagram page, which showed her wearing the short dress. The photo angered many of her Christian fans.
"I thought she stands for Christian values. It looks like lingerie!" one commenter posted on her Instagram.
Even before the show debuted in February, Bure's Christian fans were quick to question her involvment in a show that featured crude humor, a love triangle, and even girl-on-girl and guy-on-guy kisses.
"'Fuller House' is disappointing," one fan wrote on Facebook. "There were some good points, but sadly, they were overshadowed by the very ugly parts."
