Canelo Alvarez Eyes Fight vs. Gennady Golovkin after Knockout Win Over Amir Khan: Canelo's Message to Golovkin

Alvarez put on another memorable performance on Saturday night through an emphatic knockout victory against former world champion Amir Khan. The 25-year old boxing sensation ended the fight in the sixth round, immediately opening the doors for a fight against the undefeated Kazakh knockout artist.

According to Golden Boy Promotions chief and six-division world boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya, calls were immediately made the day after the fight to begin negotiations.

"Those negotiations (for the Alvarez-Golovkin fight) will happen behind closed doors, and when we come to an agreement, we will let everyone know," De La Hoya said in an ESPN report.

"If that's the fight Canelo wants, I will get some well-deserved rest and when I wake up start making some phone calls," he added. "I've always said come May 8 we will start negotiating with Golovkin's people."

For his part, Alvarez was vocal about his intent to face Golovkin in the future. As far back as his fight against Miguel Cotto in November, when he bagged the WBC title, he immediately called out "GGG" during his post-fight interview in the ring.

He did it once again on Saturday night, in front of the crowd of thousands at the newly built T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, but delivered a stronger message, this time around.

"I invited him to come to the ring. Like we say in Mexico 'we don't f*** around,'" Alvarez said. "I don't fear anyone; we don't come to play in this sport. I fear no one in this sport. Right now I will put on the gloves again and fight him."

Golovkin was in attendance during the contest and simply reiterated that the fight should be fought at the 160-pound limit. Alvarez's fight against Khan was done at a 155-pound catch-weight.
