Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin: Alvarez Wants Catch-Weight Against Golovkin, 'GGG' Rejects Idea, Calls Move 'Disrespectful' for Boxing
Despite having respective opponents to face, both WBC middleweight champions Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are already in each other's warpaths.
Alvarez is slated to defend his title in a 155-pound catch-weight against former world light welterweight champion Amir Khan on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Golokvin, on the other hand, will be defending his WBA, IBF, and IBO, as well as his WBC interim title this Saturday, April 23rd, against fellow undefeated fighter Dominic Wade at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

The winner of the fight between Alvarez and Khan is required to face Golovkin, the WBC's mandatory challenger. "GGG", for his part, would need to win his upcoming fight against Wade, in order to contend for the title.
As early as now, the Alvarez camp has already laid out their stipulations for the potential 'super fight' with Golovkin. In a report by Edward Chaykovsky for Boxinsgcene, they are demanding for another catch-weight situation, similar to the Khan and Cotto fights that transpired.
"Canelo is not a middleweight," said Golden Boy Promotions Vice President Eric Gomez, and Alvarez's promoter. "If Gennady wants to make the fight, maybe we can talk about some catch-weight where Gennady comes down and Canelo goes up, but he's truly a 154-pounder."
The said requirement eventually reached Golovkin in his team, where they questioned Alvarez as a champion.
"I understand this decision is maybe 20% Canelo's and 80% Golden Boy," Golovkin said in another Boxingscene report. "It's business, but it's not respectful of boxing."
Golovkin went on to point out that Alvarez did not defeat Cotto as a middleweight, then urged the latter to "settle who's the best" at the 160-pound weight class.
For Golovkin's promoter K2 Promotions, any more deals with the Alvarez camp is no longer welcome to be entertained. According to the Promotion's managing director Tom Loeffler, Alvarez has no other choice to face Golovkin, in the fall, if both men do end up winning their respective upcoming fights.
