'Captain America 3' News: Daniel Bruhl to Play Villain

"Rush" actor Daniel Bruhl has been cast to play one of the villains in "Captain America: Civil War." Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the casting news on Friday, Nov. 14.

"With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew that we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes," Feige said in a statement.

Bruhl's role has yet to be disclosed, but according to Screenrant, Marvel insiders are saying that he will be playing a villain, and one who has potentially a larger role to play in "Doctor Strange." Bruhl will not be the main villain in "Captain America," but he could potentially be the primary antagonist in "Doctor Strange." If there's any truth to the rumor, then this would be Bruhl's second time to star alongside "Doctor Strange" frontrunner Benedict Cumberbatch, whom he starred with in last year's "The Fifth Estate."

Phase 3 of Marvel Cinematic Universe will kick off with "Captain America: Civil War." The film will feature co-star Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. and will mark the debut of Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther.

"It's a big storyline," said Feige in a recent interview with Variety. "This is the Civil War of the cinematic universe, inspired by comic book universe, but the Civil War that's based on all the other films, particularly [Captain America: The Winter Soldier] and [The Avengers: Age of Ultron]."

The Civil War plot is a significant one for Marvel's cinematic universe, because of the moral conflict and physical battle that will play out in the movies. The storyline revolves around The Avengers' differing philosophies regarding the Superhuman Registration Act.

"Captain America: Civil War" will premiere on May 6, 2016.
