'Captain America: Civil War' & 'Agents of SHIELD' Have Government Stepping In For Control While Both Teams Get Divided

With the introduction of the Advanced Threat Containment Unit or ATCU, this season of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is moving towards the government stepping in to control the Inhumans. Similarly in "Captain America: Civil War," the government wants to enact the Superheroes Registration Act to control the superheroes.

The connecting factor is the government stepping in to control the actions of the Inhumans or the Superheroes and the teams getting divided.

In an interview with HeyUGuys, Clark Gregg, Agent Phil Coulson in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." was asked if his team will also be split in the upcoming Civil War? He responded by saying "Yes, I believe [the team could be divided]. Certainly, you see different points of view starting to happen."

He added, "People show up who have different evolutionary makeup and start to become a different form of humanity. And some people feel like that's a threat and they should be executed, and other people feel like that's a compelling new part of who we are as a species and that feels like the world right now. It certainly seems to be dividing Coulson's team."

Viewers will recall that in the show's Season 2 finale, Skye blasted the plane carrying the Terrigen crystals into the ocean. However, the Terrigen was released into the water and made its way into fish. This, in turn, resulted to Inhumans appearing across the world. Normal people turned into Inhumans like Joey Gutierrez, who consumed the Terrigen-infected fish oil tablet and turned into a pyrokinetic. He was not able to control his powers and ended up destroying his neighbourhood. Daisy, as Skye, and Hunter go to rescue him.

However, the S.H.I.E.L.D. team finds that another organization, the ATCU, is already on the job. The Advanced Threat Containment Unit led by Rosalind Price (played by Constance Zimmer) has its main objective to contain the threat of Inhumans. They are supported by President Ellis. So here, the government has already stepped in.

In "Captain America: Civil War," the government is trying to make Superheroes accountable for their actions via the Superheroes Registration Act. This is after the Avengers caused a lot of damage trying to fight Ultron that was Iron Man's creation.

In the TV show and the movie, the theme seems to be the same. The government will step in if Inhumans or the Avengers are responsible for collateral damage during their mission of saving Earth. The government is going to demand a system of accountability and the Superheroes or Inhumans will be answerable for their actions.

This common factor could certainly point to a crossover and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will be setting up events that will seamlessly allow for the logical flow of ideology in "Captain America: Civil War."
