'Captain America: Civil War' Cast News: Spider-Man Confirmed To Be In Film!

Iron Man has again let slip an important detail about a Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

After insinuating last week that he and Captain America (Chris Evans) would soon be reuniting to shoot another film, which fans assumed is the 2017 "Spider-Man" stand-alone film, Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr. ) has just spilled another major Marvel secret: Spider-Man (Tom Holland) will be making his big-screen debut in "Captain America: Civil War."

EW reports that during an interview, Downey, Jr. said: "[Don] Cheadle and I are just going, 'Wow, dude, look at this.' We're now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]. But we're also looking around like, 'Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spider-Man…?' I mean it's like wow, this thing is just crazy."

Ever since it was announced that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios had reached an agreement allowing Spider-Man to appear in the MCU, Marvel fans have been speculating on when Spidey will be making his big-screen appearance and whether or not his first MCU film will include any of the Avengers. The most persistent rumor was that Spider-Man will be making his debut in "Civil War," the first trailer for which dropped last week.

According to EW, it should be noted that Spider-Man's appearance in "Civil War" actually makes sense, as Joe and Anthony Russo, the film's directors, were part of the group that handpicked the new Spidey.

About picking Holland, Joe Russo said: "We did two screen tests with the character. We were pretty vocal about who we wanted for the part." The director called Holland "fantastic" and "amazing," comparing him to a young Christian Bale in the film "Empire of the Sun."

But as one character's appearance is confirmed, so is another's absence. Screenwriter Christopher Markus disclosed that Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) will not be in the film, saying: "You put those guys in a fight, it's over quickly. It's like, 'Well, we have the Hulk on our side.' Oh, fine, then."

"Captain America: Civil War" is coming to North American cinemas on May 6, 2016.
