'Captain America: Civil War' News, Spoilers: Chris Evans On 'Civil War' Conflict, New Co-Stars Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland
After seeing Steve Rogers be a poster boy for patriotism in "Captain America: The First Avenger" (2011) and a loyal S.H.I.E.L.D. operative in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (2014), it may come as a bit of a shock that the all-American superhero is defying the government in the upcoming Marvel superhero brawler "Captain America: Civil War."
In the third stand-alone Cap film, Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) will be going head-to-head against his good friend and fellow Avenger, Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.) over the Sokovia Accords, a new piece of legislation aimed at monitoring the activities of "enhanced individuals." While Tony believes that superheroes need to be controlled, Steve is wary of operating under the command of a corrupt political system.
In a recent chat with ShortList, Evans explained the reason Cap is going against Tony and the government. "No one man should have all the power," the actor said.
During the interview, Evans also talked about which Marvel character could possibly defeat Captain America. According to the actor, Cap would have a hard time walking away from a fight with Asgardian god of thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth).
"That lightning, that hammer – that could really be nasty for Cap," he said. Good thing, then, that the superhero doesn't appear at Iron Man's side in "Civil War."
Evans also spoke about filming the upcoming Marvel superhero spectacle and praised his new co-star, Chadwick Boseman, who makes his big screen debut as the Wakandan king/superhero T'Challa/Black Panther in the film.
According to the actor, who called Boseman "a great guy," "This isn't just a one-off appearance, he's gonna have his own universe to explore, so we're really excited for people to see what he can do."
In an interview with IGN, Evans also spoke about his other new co-star, Tom Holland, who debuts his take on a teenaged Peter Parker/Spider-Man in "Civil War."
"I don't want to give too much away, but it's brief, I think I can say brief, but I really love the scene we have together, it's a brief, a little wink, a little nod, and I think there's a, it's nice, and I think Tom is phenomenal," Evans said.
"Captain America: Civil War" drops May 6.
