'Captain America: Civil War' Spoilers: It's "One Of The Best Marvel Movies Ever,' James Gunn Reveals
With just over four months left before Marvel Entertainment's superhero-packed "Captain America: Civil War" hits theaters, the studio has been steadily building hype for the the third "Captain America" installment. The latest news on the much-awaited film comes from James Gunn, who helmed Marvel's 2014 blockbuster hit "Guardians of the Galaxy." In a recent Facebook video Q&A, Gunn said, "I saw 'Civil War' and I think it's incredible."
"It's one of the best Marvel movies ever, and I can't believe what a wonderful job [directors Joe and Anthony Russo] did," he revealed. He went on: "And the cast. Oh my God, they're so good. So it's an amazing film and people are going to be really excited to see that come summertime."
Joe and Anthony Russo directed the 2014 film "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and are also attached to direct Marvel's magnum opus, the two-part "Avengers: Infinity War."
Gunn, who is set to begin filming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" in February, also opened up about British actor Tom Holland, the latest actor to play Spider-Man, who will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in "Civil War." "Tom Holland is…off-the-charts awesome," the director said. "Off. The. Charts. Awesome. Off the charts. Truly. Hand to my heart, he's amazing," he gushed.
"Civil War" follows the story of the Avengers as they deal with a new government-enforced system that aims to regulate their activities. The film pits superheroes against superheroes as those who agree with the government oversight face off against those who don't. "Civil War" stars Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Paul Bettany (Vision), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch).
"Captain America: Civil War" is scheduled to hit the big screen on May 6.
