'Captain Marvel' rumors: Rebecca Ferguson eyed for lead role

Another name has been linked to Marvel Studios' "Captain Marvel," aside from the many other big names that fans speculate to take a lead role: Rebecca Ferguson.

Ever since the movie was announced to release as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Phase Three, fans and media outlets alike have speculated and guessed which actress will take up the superheroine role.

Heroic Hollywood suggests that Marvel may be eyeing Ferguson to portray the role of Carol Danvers, also known as Captain Marvel, who is MCU's first superheroine to be given a solo film.

Ferguson has gained attention after she successfully portrayed M16 agent Isla Faust in Tom Cruise's "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation."

In support of the outlet's claims, Screen Rant says Ferguson could indeed be a quality pick for the role, noting that the actress has been offered a role alongside Channing Tatum in "Gambit," not to mention she turned the offer down so she can take up on "The Girl on the Train" alongside Emily Blunt.

Some experts speculate that the reason why Ferguson closed the book on Gambit is because she could be preparing for the rumored Danvers role that many Hollywood actresses would love to take on.

Charlize Theron and Blunt have both been rumored to take on the lead role, and according to Forbes, any of the three would make it good. On the other hand, there is a chance that other names could be rumored again for the lead since it is basically the only "viable opportunity" for a big screen franchise that stars a lady.

Captain Marvel revolves around the life of Danvers, an Air Force pilot who acquires energy absorption and flight powers after she gets into accidents that infuse her body with Kree DNA.

Written by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve, the movie is slated for release on Nov. 2, 2018.
