'Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc' Air Date, Spoilers: A New Magical Key Powers Up Titular Character in Upcoming Sequel Series

A new chapter in Sakura Kinomoto's life is about to begin as she enters junior high school on the upcoming Japanese sequel anime series, "Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc." And just like every major event that happens in the magical girl's life, this one will also begin with a dream.

The newest promotional video for the series features the heroine introducing herself and her new life as a junior high school student. And as though school is not enough of a struggle, Sakura is once again having dreams of an impending disaster threatening her town and the magical cards that have been in her possession.

In the dream, Sakura is seen standing before a cloaked being that subsequently sends a blast of glass shards in Sakura's direction. As her voiceover says that gathering the cards is the beginning of the end, her magical key appears before her and she will once again find herself having to release its power in order to battle the harmful elements are about to descend on her town once more.

But this magical key will apparently be a new one, and it is what will help her through the new challenge of unraveling the mystery behind the entity that turned her magical cards blank and stripped them of their powers.

She will once again be assisted by her friends and guardians, as well as her former rival-turned-love interest Syaoran Li, who has just returned to Tomoeda.

The series is based on the sequel manga series of the same name written and illustrated by the popular group Clamp. The ongoing manga began serialization in 2016 in Kodansha's "Nakayoshi" magazine.

On the other hand, the anime adaptation will be produced by Madhouse and will be featuring the cast and staff from the series' first season.

"Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card Arc" premieres on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 7:30 a.m. JST on NHK BS Premium.
