Carmelo Anthony's Camp 'Cautiously Optimistic' Knicks Will Move Him Before Monday

The Carmelo Anthony trade saga may come to an end before the start of the training camp. At least, that's what his confidants are hoping for.

According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Anthony's camp is "cautiously optimistic" the New York Knicks can strike a deal with the Houston Rockets before Monday.

"Two weeks ago, Carmelo's wife, La La, said the family thought a trade would have been completed by now," Isola said.

"Mentally, Carmelo and his family have moved on to Houston. Reality is another story. Hopefully, Mills and Perry will have the right answers when they address the media on Friday because the Carmelo issue isn't going away until he goes away," he added.

ESPN's Chris Haynes seems to think that a trade is likely as well.

Still, a move isn't guaranteed and they may have to deal with a lot of distractions during training camp if Anthony isn't traded by then.

"This year, training camp could be hijacked by the uncertainty surrounding the team's two best players, Carmelo and Kristaps Porzingis," Isola stated.

Well, the Knicks haven't exactly been the model National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise, but at least they have been trying to fix their relationship with Porziņģis this summer. But Anthony is another matter. The All-Star no longer wants to be in New York, and they are better off parting ways with him as soon as possible.

The Knicks and Rockets have been working on a trade since July, but negotiations have stalled multiple times already with a resolution nowhere in sight. It will be awkward to see Anthony enter training camp with the Knicks because that is certainly going to cause a stir. He's going to be a distraction. However, the Knicks are unlikely to move him unless they are satisfied with the trade package they are getting in return.
