Carolina Panthers Roster, Injury News 2017: Tight End Greg Olsen Expected to Practice this Week
Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen is ready to work his way back into playing form after spending the past six weeks on the injured reserve list due to a fractured right foot.
The three-time Pro Bowler is eligible to return to practice this week and he has already begun testing his foot with the training staff on Monday in what the team hope is the first step toward getting him back on the field.
"It was good. We didn't do much, just went outside and moved around a little bit," Olsen said, via the Panthers' official website.
"There are going to be steps in the progression back. This isn't one of those things that just because the rules dictate it that I'm going to jump right back into practice. I don't think that's anything we're looking to do in a matter of days. It will be a gradual thing over the next couple weeks with the idea being ready to play against the Jets (on November 26)," he added.
Well, Olsen and the Panthers are clearly targeting the game against the New York Jets for his comeback, but first, they will have to ease him back into action. The Jets game also happens to be the first matchup he's eligible to play once he comes off the injured reserve list.
The Panthers have a 5–3 record at the moment, but their offense has actually struggled to score points this season. The offense should get a huge boost when Olsen returns to the field.
The two-time second-team All-Pro tight end fractured his right foot in the Panthers' week two win over the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 17 and he has been on injured reserve since Sept. 19. Olsen has not missed a game since his rookie season with the Chicago Bears in 2007 before he broke his foot.
