Carolina Panthers Tight End Greg Olsen Breaks Right Foot, Out for Six to Eight Weeks
Greg Olsen has always been known for his durability. The Pro Bowl tight end has not missed a single game since his rookie season with the Chicago Bears in 2007. It's an impressive feat, to say the least since football is a very physically demanding sport. Unfortunately, he can't avoid the injury bug forever. This season, he will have to miss a significant amount of games with a broken right foot.
Olsen sustained the injury in the first half of the Carolina Panthers' 9–3 victory over the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday. The two-time second-team All-Pro member returned in a walking boot and crutches in the second half, and after the game, he told reporters that he broke his foot.
"X-ray was pretty conclusive. It's tough for something like that to just happen. Obviously it sucks, but I've been very lucky in my career to not get injured a lot. This is something that obviously will take a little bit of time, but sometimes that's just a part the game," Olsen said, via the Panthers' official website.
"Ten-plus years without having to miss a game is a good run. Unfortunately, it's come to an end. It's hard to say right now. We've got to regroup with the doctors in the morning, and we'll see what the plan of attack is," he added.
Olsen went under the knife on Monday morning, and while the Panthers have yet to release a statement saying how long he will be out, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said he's expected to miss six to eight weeks of action while he recovers. Mortensen also noted that the Panthers still haven't decided if they were going to place him on the injured reserve list, but if they do, he's still expected to return at some point this season.
The Panthers will definitely feel his absence in the coming weeks, but they should be thankful that it's not a season-ending injury.
