Carrie Underwood on Her Commitment to Marriage and God
For Carrie Underwood, the key to a successful marriage is about trust and her promise to God.
Country singer Carrie Underwood has undergone a drastic life shift in just a short amount of time. From waiting tables at a pizzeria to becoming the fourth winner of "American Idol," she has watched has her dreams quickly become a reality that she never thought she would face.
"After high school, I pretty much gave up on the dream of singing. I had reached a point in my life where I had to be practical and prepare for my future in the 'real world,'" she said in Biography Today.
After high school Underwood went on to college and later won "Idol." Seven years after her win, she is now a multi-platinum selling recording artist and a winner of six Grammy Awards. Underwood is also a happily married woman.
Speaking of her nearly three year marriage to pro hockey player Mike Fisher, Underwood previously told Us Magazine, "we're the most normal couple in the world." That unfortunately, is when the couple is not away from each other. When they are, Underwood says that she trusts Fisher with all of her heart.
"We've seen a lot of celebrities, professional athletes, not exactly always being on their best behavior away from girlfriends, wives, families," Underwood told Allure magazine in February. "And I've never had to worry about him because I've never trusted anybody so completely."
If traveling did become a problem in their marriage, Underwood stated that she would halt her career because of the promise that she has made to her family and to God.
"If Mike ever told me he needed me to quit, I'd quit," she told People magazine in the April. "When you make that promise to somebody, and you stand before God and your family and friends, you've got to do everything that you possibly can to make that work."
Underwood also previously said that her marriage to Fisher has improved her relationship with the Lord.
"Mike has improved my walk with God," she told People. "It's important to me, because down the road, I want someone who will help shape our kids into people who make the world a better place."
Fisher agreed.
"Our spiritual bond is something we try to put first in our lives," he told the magazine.
