Carrie Underwood's 'Something in the Water' Video to Debut Following CMA Awards Performance
Carrie Underwood announced that she will not only be co-hosting the Country Music Awards ceremony tonight where she will also perform, but also debuting the music video for her faith inspired song "Something in the Water."
The 48th Annual CMA Awards begin Wednesday, Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. ET with Underwood and Brad Paisley serving as co-hosts for the seventh year in a row. Adding to their hosting duties, Underwood is slated to perform her latest hit, "Something in the Water," directly ahead of releasing the music video for the new song.
"Ready for the #CMAAwards? The #SomethingInTheWater video premieres here TONIGHT after Carrie's performance," the singer's team posted to Twitter on Wednesday.
Just one day before, Underwood shared a sneak peek at the "Something in the Water" music video, including powerful images of dancers performing on water. The new song, which is off of Underwood's upcoming greatest hits album, showcases the singer's Christian beliefs with themes of conversion, baptism and keeping the faith. Lyrics to "Something in the Water" include: "I followed that preacher down to the river and now I am changed, and now I'm stronger, there must have been something in the water."
Adding to the religious meaning behind the song, "Something in the Water" ends with an interpolation of "Amazing Grace" before Underwood powerfully sings out a portion of the hymn. It is available on iTunes and will appear on "Greatest Hits #1," Underwood's first compilation album, which hits stores on Dec. 9.
Meanwhile, the CMA Awards recognize today's top country music artist, and nominees include Blake Shelton, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert. Performances will include Ariana Grande, Ashley Monroe, Dierks Bentley and Cole Swindell.
In addition to co-hosting the CMA's, performing, and debuting the new music video, Underwood is nominated for the CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Award. The singer is also nominated for the Music Video of the Year Award and the Musical Event of the Year through her duet with Miranda Lambert on "Somethin' Bad."
