Casey Anthony Trial: Guess Who Gets Blamed and Spends Eternity Locked in Jail
Casey Anthony called herself the "the worst f-----g person in the world" a day after her daughter Caylee Anthony went missing, according to text messages entered as evidence in the trial Saturday.
The 25-year-old Anthony texted her then-boyfriend Tony Lazzaro on July 16, 2008, to let him know that she was working with police to help find her daughter.
"I'm the worst f-----g person in the world," Anthony texted to Lazzaro.
She also wrote in another text, "If they don't find her, guess who gets blamed and spends eternity in jail."
The Florida mom, accused of killing her daughter, told Lazzaro in other texts that she last saw Caylee when she dropped the toddler off at her nanny's house.
"I lied to everyone. What was I supposed to say? I trusted my daughter to some psycho? How would that look?" Anthony texted.
"I was scared to admit it," she wrote in another text. "I was scared something was going to happen to my baby."
The day before the text messages, Casey's mother, Cindy Anthony, had called 911 to report Caylee missing.
Casey told police in July 2008 that Caylee was taken by a woman she claimed was the toddler's nanny.
But in opening statements, her defense attorney dropped a bombshell, claiming that Caylee Anthony was never missing but instead had accidentally drowned in the family's swimming pool.
The Florida mom never reported Caylee missing because she was hiding her pain, the defense claimed.
Cindy Anthony testified in the trial Saturday that the above-ground pool was too high for 2-year-old Caylee to reach alone. Caylee knew how to climb the ladder up to the pool but that the ladder was removed when they were done swimming, she said.
Prosecutors claim that Casey Anthony used chloroform to knock out Caylee and put duct tape over her nose and mouth, thereby suffocating the toddler.
Casey Anthony is charged with seven counts. If she is found guilty of first degree murder, she could be sentenced to the death penalty.
The Casey Anthony trial will continue Tuesday morning.
