'Castle' season 8 spoilers: Richard's past may be explored as he teams up with new partner?

A roller coaster of events is expected to steal the hearts of fans in the upcoming season of "Castle" as rumors suggest that Rick's past may finally be uncovered in the midst of his and his wife's career changes.

The synopsis for season 8 says Richard Castle will kick off with an investigation of his father's past and how he disappeared. Somewhere through his search for answers, Castle just may dig up details about his past and his own disappearance.

Starting with a special premiere that will run for two hours, showrunner Alexi Hawley said, "This year, we really do want to get into what happened when he was gone in a way that hopefully ties a lot of the threads of mysteries of seven seasons together in an unexpected and exciting way."

While it has been previously reported that Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever) will try to get his life into better shape upon welcoming a new baby, the same change of heart will create a clash between him, Kate Beckett, and Esposito.

On the other hand, creator Terence Paul Winter clarified that though there will be episodes that will look into the lives of other characters for a change, the whole of the season will still mainly revolve around the romance of Castle and Beckett.

In an interview with TV Guide, Winter said, "It's always been about the Castle-Beckett love story. That's steeped in the DNA of the show, and that's what it will always be," further explaining that season 8 will see a deeper sense of the two's love for each other amid the challenges that the couple will be placed into, in order for them to reach greater heights.

Meanwhile, Toks Olagundoye makes her debut in the eighth installment as investigator Hayley Shipton in the pilot episode. Hawley describes Shipton as a dynamic and fun character that "the show doesn't have" so fans will see a free-spirit teaming up with Castle, who is known for doing things the way police do.

Castle season 8 premieres on ABC on Monday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m..
