Catherine Zeta-Jones Leaves Rehab: 'Doing Wonderful,' Says Husband Michael Douglas
Catherine Zeta-Jones left rehab after completing treatment for bipolar II disorder earlier today. Husband Michael Douglas said that his wife is "doing wonderful" and is ready to get back to her career and family.
Zeta-Jones decided to check herself into treatment in April to deal with "the stress of the past year." She wanted to take care of herself and have time to cope with everything that was happening in her world. Her husband had just been through a battle with stage 4 throat cancer; he is now in remission.
"Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner," her representative told Us Weekly.
Zeta-Jones has dealt with the disorder for several years but decided to come forward in order to bring awareness to the illness, which can cause crippling mood swings, depression, and anxiety. Since coming forward in 2011, she has spoken about living with the disorder.
"I'm really happy I have great friends, great support, and that's all I can do. Everyone has things going on, and we deal with them the best we can. We can't jump from the rooftops shouting, 'I have this! Look at me! Victim!' No, we all have issues in life," Zeta-Jones said on "Good Morning America."
"Catherine's doing wonderful," Michael Douglas told "Extra" yesterday. "She's got herself worked out with her meds and she's raring to go!" He also explained why Zeta-Jones wanted to come forward when she did.
"There are so many outlets, so it's better you get out in front of it to tell your story before it becomes gossip," Douglas said.
He and Zeta-Jones have been married for 13 years and have two children, Dylan Michael, born in 2000, and Carys Zeta, born in 2003. They are part of a powerful Hollywood family; Douglas is the son of Kirk Douglas and shows no signs of slowing down, despite several serious health setbacks.
